This thesis tends to response that the believers and even the church ministers today commonly suffer or face obstacles in Christian identity while they live in an unbelieving world which people claim God is absent and despise the faith in the cross of Christ. The research starts from reflecting on Luther’s doctrine on the hidden God then compares to his teaching on God’s law by further development of the doctrine of the work of God’s law, specifically while Luther distinguishes it as “God’s alien work”, in another term, the wrath of God. While the concept of the alien work belongs to the law of God according to the teaching of distinction of Law and Gospel, in this sense, we can treat the law of God as twofold perspectives, comprehensible and incomprehensible.
I argue that the incomprehensible law is the mean of God’s hidden will, and God grants spiritual freedom from this incomprehensible law to the man with faith in Christ Jesus. God is hidden but not absent in his creation world; Hence a Christian in faith may live without the anxiety in violation of God’s uncertain purpose and plan regarding every circumstance.
